A Tribute to Farhad Mehrad

This Saturday, August 31, will be 11 years since Iran lost a rock/folk icon: Farhad Mehrad. Cafe Nadery will honor this day by playing Farhad’s phenomenal music throughout the day.

Farhad Mehrad widely known in Iran as Farhad was an award winning Persian rock singer, songwriter, guitarist, pianist and icon. He rose to prominence among Iranian rock and folkmusicians before the Iranian Revolution, but after the revolution he was banned from singing for several years. His first concert after the Iranian Revolution was held in 1993. To this day he is considered one of the most influential, revolutionary, gifted and respected Iranian artists of all time. One of the best contemporary musicians who was banned from singing in Iran for several years.

وقت خوبی كه می شد غزلی تازه بگی/
ظهر یكشنبه ی من جدول نیمه تموم/
همه خونه هاش سیاه روی خونه جغد شوم/
صفحه ی كهنه ی یادداشتای من /
گفت دوشنبه روز میلاد منه/
اما شعر تو میگه كه چشم من /
تو نخ ابره كه بارون بزنه/

غروب سه شنبه خاكستری بود /
همه انگار نوك كوه رفته بودن/
به خودم هی زدم از اینجا برو/
اما موش خورده شناسنامه ی من/
عصر چهار شنبه ی من عصر خوشبختی ما/
فصل گندیدن من فصل جون سختی ما/
روز پنجشنبه اومد مثه سقاهك پیر /
رو نوكش یه چیكه آب گفت به من بگیر بگیر/
جمعه حرف تازه ای برام نداشت/
هر چی بود پیش تر از این ها گفته بود./
