In Search for Roots is an Art & Design Exhibition by Guerdoo Design, curated by Negin Sharifzadeh, opening August 6th to August 31st at Café Nadery.

Afarin Sajjadian and Amir Abdolahzadeh are the founders of Guerdoo Design Studio in Montreal, Quebec. They emigrated from Iran in their 20s to pursue their dreams, met in France, re-united in New York, and soon after created Guerdoo Design in Montreal. Guerdoo means ‘Walnut’ in the Persian language, representing the hidden complexity behind a simple surface that is a model for their work.

Guerdoo Design studio unites passions for art, poetry, and design. Using recycled and eco-friendly material (mainly wood), their team creates and develops decorative objects, furniture, and hand crafted fashion accessories, giving each piece a unique identity, a value too often lost in the era of mass-production.

With strong backgrounds in engineering, art, and architecture, the team represents a fusion of handmade art and modern design. Their goal is to revive craftsmanship and traditional art in an innovative and contemporary form of design. Their artworks are mainly inspired by Persian traditional art and done through the art of pyrography, the decorative use of burn marks on materials like wood. After showcases in Montreal in 2014 and 2015, they are looking to introduce themselves to an international audience.

The team aims for Guerdoo Design studio to be known as the place where art compliments design.
